Preparing for liftoff.... slowly.

Today I spent some time online and on the phone checking out long term campgrounds in the Verde Valley, Arizona.  I found a couple that were quite reasonable.  Then I started thinking about little comforts I now enjoy, like unlimited internet and satellite TV.  Comparing costs between DirecTV and Dish Network, and upping my data plan from Verizon.  Gads.  With DirecTV you have to invest mucho dinero in a fancy receiver.  I don't think that's gonna happen.  With Dish, the receiver is $150, but it sits on the ground.  We could probably use the satellite box we already have.  I'm not ready to make those arrangements yet, still gathering information.

The tornadoes have certainly been on my mind.  They scare me to death!  We were thinking of spending time in Texas, but now I'm not sure.  We may just stay west of the Rockies because I'm such a wuss.

Watching a video of Harv Presnell singing "They Call the Wind Mariah."  It seems appropriate. Saying prayers for all those effected by the storms.

  1. I'd probably head up to northern Arizona or NM during the hot months. Try doing without cable first to see how that goes.I use a DTV Box & just go analog. I can get several station where I am. And I can always fine something to watch on the computer. There's Hulu, Crackle & Yidio. Probably a few more I don't know about.

    1. We live in northern Arizona, so we'll head to Colorado if we leave early enough for it to still be warm up there. Hulu and Netflix are both good ideas. We like to watch local news and weather, and we won't be boondocking so hopefully can get local TV on our antenna. We're on Dish Network now, and we might just take our satellite box with us and get a Dish antenna later on.

    2. Oh yea, I forgot that you already live in Northern AZ! I get local channels with the DTV box. And a lot of spanish stations!! ;-) The nice thing is, you can relocate once the weather changes where ever you choose to land.

    3. True. I think I'd like a house as a home base, and travel either in winter or summer depending on where we land. If we come back to Arizona, might do 4 months in Colorado. If we end up in Southern Oregon, back to Phoenix in the winter.

  2. Yes, if you can get decent wifi, Cyn's suggestion of Hulu is a good one. You can get HuluPlus for $8/month. Same for Netflix, which will have more movies.

Maybe you can do a social experiment of going without for a month (week? day?). Then having unlimited streaming of TV and movies may feel decadent for $16/month.

  3. The longest social experiment I've managed is a few hours at a time when the power goes out. I am well and truly hooked. Of course, the view out my windows is the same every day and no close neighbors. That will change when we're on the road. I just got back from town and the big deal for me today was shuffling around Walmart and Pet Sense. I'm exhausted.
